Porcelain dental veneers can be used to camouflage a variety of dental imperfections and help patients attain a bright, balanced smile. They are extremely versatile and can be used to conceal cracks, chips and discoloration of the teeth. Plano, TX cosmetic dentist, Dr. Ron Bosher, uses porcelain veneers to treat small gaps and misalignments, improve the appearance of one or several teeth and create a new, attractive smile. The porcelain is color-matched to surrounding teeth so that the veneers blend in perfectly to look natural. Like natural tooth enamel, porcelain is translucent, meaning light passes through them rather than reflecting off its surface.
What to Expect
To prepare a tooth for the placement of a veneer, Dr. Bosher will first spend time to determine exactly what is trying to be accomplished with the veneers. As part of his comprehensive exam, photos and impressions of the mouth will be taken and sent to the lab where the veneers are shaped in wax. The patient will then return for a second consultation so that the wax mold fits and if necessary, any changes or modifications can be made. Finally, during the third visit the teeth will be prepared for the veneers by removing a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of the tooth. Temporary veneers will be made that exactly duplicate the approved wax mold. Once the patient is satisfied with the temporary veneers, Dr. Bosher instructs the lab to make the final restorations. This way, the patient is assured what the veneers are going to look like before they are made. Once the veneers are fabricated, we will ensure that it fits properly, making slight adjustments if necessary and bond each in place. With proper care, porcelain veneers can create a beautiful, confident smile that can last for years.
The cost of porcelain veneers varies for each patient, depending on the number of teeth being concealed. Patients can expect to pay between $1,500-$1,900 per tooth.
