Dr. Stacie Calian – Current President-Elect

Immersed in the world of dentistry almost her entire life, our current president-elect, Dr. Stacie Calian, feels she has a true calling for the field as a general and cosmetic dentist. Serving New York with two locations, Smile Design Dental Spa and Brewster Dental, Dr. Calian aims to transform, enhance, and restore a patient’s teeth to elevate his or her quality of life with her dentistry. Offering general, cosmetic, and restorative dental procedures, Dr. Calian uses her dedication along with her extensive training and knowledge to give her the ability and insight to do what’s best for her patients.

Beginning in her early teens, Dr. Calian began assisting several distinguished dentists who encouraged her to enter the dental profession. After she became a dental hygienist, Dr. Calian worked her way up the ranks as an assistant professor and then returned to school to become a dentist, which is her true passion. As a dentist, Dr. Calian not only wants to create and maintain healthy smiles, but she wants patients to feel comfortable and never have delays in getting needed dental services.

With her extensive training and education, Dr. Calian is a comprehensive general and cosmetic dentist, where she focuses on both the science and artistry of dentistry. With more than 18 years of clinical experience and in her role as the dental director at one of the largest insurance companies in New York, Dr. Calian has superior proficiency with some of the most advanced technologies in the dental field. Dr. Calian uses this advanced technology and her know-how to provide veneers, Lumineers®, teeth whitening, orthodontics, Invisalign®, crowns, implants, sedation options, dental exams, and much more to her patients.

Dr. Calian started as a dental hygienist and then went to Columbia University. She earned graduate degrees in dental hygiene education and public health administration. After she began teaching as an assistant professor, Dr. Calian realized her true passion was to become a dentist. Dr. Calian attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry and earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Her quest for education also allowed Dr. Calian to earn a graduate degree in aesthetics from the Rosenthal Institute for Aesthetic Dentistry. At Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. Calian trained extensively as a hospital resident.

Dr. Calian implemented a school-based dental program and has developed a curriculum in oral pathology. In addition, Dr. Calian is a strong believer in continuing education and she enjoys educating and training other dental professionals in various cosmetic dental procedures, techniques, and technologies. In fact, Dr. Calian exceeds the amount of required yearly education courses and has completed:

• Laminate dentistry seminars
• TMD diagnosis and treatment planning
• Certification in conscious sedation, Lumineers®, and Invisalign®

Dr. Calian discovered that patients often neglect their dental care due to fear of the unknown and anxiety about dental procedures. Therefore, she sought to address these concerns by becoming associated with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (or D.O.C.S.) Conscious Sedation, or sedation dentistry, is designed for patients who have dental anxiety, difficulty getting numb, uncontrollable gagging, difficulty sitting for long periods of time, and other dental-related issues.
